Cremorne is a duplex for two three and four bedroom dwellings located on a corner site in Cremorne, Sydney.

The site has an irregular triangular geometry with cross falls running both east and west and north and south along the two streetscape frontages. The site has only one neighbour along the western boundary and two streetscape frontages facing east and south with the narrowest boundary facing north.

The built form followed the geometry of the site in order to maximise the potential internal area.  This created a triangular building volume.  Due to the irregular geometry of this shape a rational response to the planning was required to organise the proposed brief.  The form was divided into two halves where each half creating two corner blocks allowing for the maximum amount of facade area for each dwelling and the most rational shape for the planning the interiors.  The division between the two forms also provided the vertical circulation and entry to each dwelling.

The non rectilinear spaces were used for living, kitchen, dining and masted bedrooms while bedrooms, bathrooms and laundries utilised rectilinear spaces.  This provided spaces that suited their function and maximised the potential of the geometry.

Each dwelling is two stories with living areas on ground and bedrooms and bathrooms on level 01.  A single garage was provided for each dwelling accessed from the secondary street.  Each living area is dual spect and has direct connection to a private external landscaped space.  Landscape was also utilised along the boundaries to separate the proposal from the streetscapes.

As the site was a corner site solidity within the facade was used to create a sense of privacy.  Carefully placed openings were used order to maximise connections and views of the private courtyards, solar access and ventilation.  Brick was used in a carefully detailed pattern to contextualise the building within the context and bring order to the irregular form.  The combination of this with the proposed landscape created a project that both merged with the context but also provided a contemporary example.
